Dewi Goddesses

Dewi Sri, also known as Shridevi, an Indonesian rice goddess who is associated with Lakshmi in the Hindu culture. She is asked for blessings upon the rice paddies and her statue is sometimes placed in the rice field.

Dewi Sri is the Goddess of the earth and the Mother of the Javanese people. She is widely venerated as the great benefactress of the people who protects them against hunger. Dewi Sri is the inspirer of Java’s highly productive method of rice farming and master landscaping techniques.  She is also associated with the abundance of water needed to protect and nurture the rice fields and the farmers pray to her for a bountiful harvest. She is often featured in ponds and pools as a water goddess symbolising the giving of an abundance of water.
