Chinese dragons are symbolic of good fortune, protection, and intelligence.  Dragons are predominately yang, the masculine principle of heat, light, and action. In Chinese astrology there are five types of dragons symbolised by water, wood, fire, earth, and metal. Each type of dragon has different characteristics.
